Hastings Secondary College Works Notification | 13 September 2024

We are upgrading Hastings Secondary College to support the student community. The upgrade will enhance educational delivery at the Port Macquarie and Westport campuses, streamline and strengthen transition and pathway options for students and their community, and provide the latest modern classrooms.

All upgrade works at the Westport campus are complete and work is continuing at the Port Macquarie campus.

Demolition work at Port Macquarie campus during school holidays

From Monday 30 September to Friday 12 October classrooms, bathrooms and external pavement on the ground floor of Building L will be demolished, as will the ground floor and level one on Building B. This work has been scheduled over the upcoming school holidays to minimise disruption to students and staff.

This demolition work is to prepare for the refurbishment works taking place across both Buildings B and L which will include:
• New bathroom facilities
• New support unit and classrooms
• General upgrades to movement areas throughout

This work will also include the removal of asbestos containing material that has been found internally in Buildings B and L, as well as the decommissioning of services (electrical, mechanical and hydraulic services) which will involve site wide isolations of services.

All asbestos remediation work will be done in accordance with work, health and safety laws and the NSW Department of Education’s Asbestos Management Plan, as well as site specific management plans and safety measures are in place while work is being done. All work will be completed by licensed and accredited asbestos contractors and monitored by independent hygienists in strict accordance with all applicable legislation, regulations, policies, and guidelines.

Access into the site will utilise the back entrance gate of the school with all works contained within the Port Macquarie campus site. Work hours will be 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm Saturdays.
