Students Kickstart Their Trades Career with SBAT Success
03 Mar 2025
George Keena and Jarrah Burton are building strong career paths in the trades while completing their HSC at Hastings Secondary College. George will finish the first year of his electrical apprenticeship, and Jarrah will complete his Construction Pathways traineeship by the time they graduate.
George is undertaking a Certificate III in Electrotechnology, gaining hands-on experience through a School-Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship (SBAT) with Pete from Jacka Electrical Services. Through his proactive approach, leveraging connections with friends, family, and sports clubs, he explored multiple work experience opportunities before securing his SBAT. He will have completed 180 days on the job, setting him up for a strong start in the electrical trade at the end of Year 12.
Jarrah is studying his Certificate II in Construction Pathways while working in the carpentry trade with Andrew Buckby Carpentry. Over Years 11 and 12, he will complete 144 days of practical work, successfully finishing his traineeship and gaining valuable industry experience before graduating.
We extend our gratitude to Jacka Electrical Services and Andrew Buckby Carpentry for supporting our students in developing real-world trade skills and career opportunities.
