We are thrilled to announce that our LEGO League team, the Baked Pickles, has achieved an extraordinary victory at the National FIRST LEGO League Championship. They set a new record for the highest score in a robot game, becoming the top-scoring team ever in Australia. This remarkable accomplishment highlights their exceptional creativity, technical expertise, and teamwork.
The national competition, held at Macquarie University in Sydney, brought together teams from public, private, and independent schools to solve innovative robotics challenges. Participants were judged on their ability to design, build, and program LEGO robots to tackle complex tasks. The Baked Pickles stood out as the nation’s leading team with their meticulously engineered robots, inventive solutions, and a compelling research project based on this year’s theme, SUBMERGED.
The SUBMERGED theme encouraged teams to explore underwater environments and propose sustainable solutions for marine ecosystems. The Baked Pickles’ innovative research earned glowing feedback from the judges, who are all experts in the engineering field. One judge was so impressed by their idea that they expressed interest in facilitating discussions between the team and a professional engineer in the boat safety industry.
We are also proud to celebrate our Electric Mayhem team, who received the prestigious Robot Design Award. This accolade recognises their ingenuity and creativity in robot design, reflecting their hard work and commitment.
Competing against schools from all sectors and excelling at such a high level highlights the exceptional calibre of Hastings Secondary College’s students and staff. It underscores the dedication of our robotics and LEGO League programs, which foster problem-solving, collaboration, and STEM excellence.
The Baked Pickles will now represent Australia on the global stage at the FIRST LEGO League World Championship in Houston, Texas, where the brightest young minds from around the world will gather to compete.
