Investing in our schools
As part of the NSW Government's plan to rebuild public education, the 2024-25 Budget is delivering record education funding, including $1.4 billion for new and upgraded schools in regional NSW. This targeted investment will ensure growing communities get access to a world class public education.
Project overview
We are upgrading Hastings Secondary College to support the student community. The upgrade will enhance educational delivery at the Port Macquarie and Westport campuses, streamline and strengthen transition and pathway options for students and their community, and provide the latest modern classrooms.
All upgrade works at the Westport campus have been completed along with the new multi-sport facility, delivered in partnership with the PCYC, at the Port Macquarie Campus. Work is continuing on the upgrade at the Port Macquarie campus.
Progress summary – Port Macquarie campus
Work is currently underway on Building T which is being rebuilt to provide additional Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) facilities, including 4 new classrooms, and a new staffroom.
Structural steel and roofing works have recently been completed and work has started on the façade and to install brickwork throughout the building.
Upgrades to Buildings B and L are in the planning phase, and early works to upgrade walkways are in progress. Tenders will be released in September 2024 for the early works upgrade to student toilets on the ground floor of Building L.
Next steps
Over the next few weeks, work will start on installing windows and completing internal sheeting, waterproofing, tiling and brickwork for Building T. We expect this building to be completed by late 2024. Completion of the upgrade including works to Buildings B and L is likely to be in mid-2025.
