Strong Partnerships, Shared Opportunities: Myles Turner Supporting the Next Generation

Myles

Myles Turner is a shining example of the Hastings Valley public schools’ shared commitment to growth, support, and community connection. Through our strong partnership, we continue to provide authentic, meaningful opportunities for both students and staff, and his experience highlights the strength and impact of this collaboration.

Returning to the halls of Port Macquarie Public School, where his own educational adventure began, Myles is now contributing in a new role, as a trainee in education support. A proud Wiradjuri young man, and dedicated Year 11 student at Hastings Secondary College, Myles is currently completing a School-Based Traineeship in Education Support through the Elsa Dixon Aboriginal Employment Program.

Myles is actively supporting teachers in the classroom, assisting with learning activities, and gaining valuable insight into classroom dynamics, student engagement, and mentoring young learners. This placement is providing a strong foundation for a rewarding future in education.

Myles is thriving in this role and genuinely enjoying his time in the classroom, where he continues to build confidence and form strong relationships with both staff and students. Working alongside dedicated educators in a supportive environment, Myles has become a calm, respectful presence in the school community. Teachers have praised his maturity, and younger students look up to him as a positive role model.

Our SBAT program offers a valuable balance of study, paid work, and hands-on training. Upon completion, Myles will hold a Certificate III in Education Support, providing a pathway directly into employment or further study.

At Hastings Secondary College, we are proud of our strong community partnerships and our commitment to supporting students like Myles, ensuring they have clear pathways to success through real-world learning experiences. His story is an inspiring example of how SBAT programs can open doors to meaningful careers and further education opportunities.

If any current Year 10 students are interested in exploring a similar pathway, they are encouraged to speak with the Careers Advisors at each campus or connect with our College SBAT Officer for more information.
