Relieving College Principal Welcomes Term 2

Krsiten Miller

Dear Hastings Secondary College Families,

I am privileged to introduce myself as the Relieving College Principal of Hastings Secondary College, as Ms Meaghan Cook pursues an exciting leadership opportunity with the Department of Education during Term 2. I have had the pleasure of serving as Principal of Port Macquarie Campus for nearly three years and understand the importance of our roles and the significant impact we have within our school community.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Meaghan, whose exemplary leadership has helped shape a strong and thriving college. I step into this role with deep respect for her contributions and a commitment to continuing the positive momentum she has built.

Mrs Karen Noble will continue as Relieving Principal at Westport Campus, and Mr Darren Williams will be the Relieving Principal at Port Macquarie Campus. Together, we are committed to maintaining strong connections between staff, students, and families.

As we begin Term 2, we remain dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment, guided by our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) valuesSafe, Respectful, and Personal Best. These values shape our daily expectations across both campuses and help ensure every student can thrive.

Our College Expectations remain clear and consistent:
Safe – Follow instructions | Be in the right place at the right time
Respectful – Control what I say and do | Actively listen
• Personal Best – Ask for help | Work and let others work

High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is a key focus for Term 2 across both campuses. Staff have been engaging in professional learning to strengthen our collective understanding of how to identify and nurture student potential across the four domains—intellectual, creative, physical, and social-emotional. HPGE is about ensuring each student receives the right support, is challenged, and has the opportunity to thrive. This approach, underpinned by equity and high expectations, helps us create learning environments where every student is known. valued, and empowered to reach their full potential.

Consistent attendance and active participation in lessons are crucial for our students’ academic progress and personal growth. I am grateful for the support of our staff, parents, and carers in promoting regular attendance and encouraging every student to attend school each day.

I look forward to meeting many of you and working closely with our college executive and Campus Principals, Mrs Noble and Mr Williams. Together, we will continue to strive for excellence and celebrate the outstanding individuals who contribute to the success of our wonderful College.

Kind regards,

Kristen Miller
