Pathways to Success: Our College SBAT Program Thrives!

Quinn at Coastline Credit Union

Our College has been focusing on our valuable School-Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship (SBAT) program that offers additional pathways for our students. SBATs provide an excellent opportunity for students to pursue their desired careers while concurrently completing their HSC.

Quinn Archibald from Port Macquarie Campus and Troy Sibley from Westport Campus have already embarked on their career journeys by officially commencing their traineeships and apprenticeships while continuing their studies. This dual approach enables them to gain practical experience while also completing their HSC.

Quinn is currently completing a Certificate II in Work Skills while dedicating one day per week to his role with Coastline Credit Union throughout Year 11 and 12. He will also work a block week in during each school holiday period. Quinn's performance has earned exceptional feedback from branch manager Mitch Van Der Ver, specifically praising his outstanding customer service and swift adaptation to his new role.

Troy has commenced his SBAT with the local panel beater and spray-painting business, Supalook Smash Repair. Jason from Supalook expressed great enthusiasm in having a school-based apprentice from Hastings Secondary College. Troy is enjoying the opportunity to kickstart his career, working 2 days a week while simultaneously attending school for 3 days, completing his HSC. Troy will also engage in a week of block work during each holiday break.

This balanced approach between education and practical experience has resonated well with Troy, who finds the combination of school and work highly fulfilling. He is very happy to complete the first year of his apprenticeship over Years 11 and 12.

We look forward to seeing our students who are in the final stages of finalising their school-based apprenticeships or traineeships start pursuing their career goals
