It is great to be back in the full swing of Term 2. I trust all our Hastings Secondary College families had a safe and restful Easter.
It was wonderful to see so many staff and students at the Anzac Day march on Tuesday. Thank you to all of the school community that supported the event.
All staff this week attended professional learning with a focus on Aboriginal Education and it was a very worthwhile focus for the day.
On the whole it has been a great start to the term however, some students have been struggling to wear the correct uniform. It is important for the safety of the students at the school that the correct uniform is worn. In particular hoodies are not permitted. The Deputy Principals and I have also been able to implement positive rewards for students who are in uniform.
Next Tuesday, 2 May, promises to be a day to look forward to as it is Harmony Day. This day will include a free pancake breakfast, out of uniform and Just Dance at lunch. I would also encourage eligible students to volunteer for the Ironman event. Please contact Mr Sanderson for more information.
The Cross Country will also take place on 10 May and, injury permitting, I am looking forward to joining in the event.
Our P&C will be holding a Mother’s Day Stall at the school on 11 and 12 May, operating at break times. Please encourage your child to use this as a perfect way to remember a Mother’s Day gift and support the wonderful P&C. if you are available to volunteer, please contact the P&C.
There has been an improvement in parents responding to explain a student absence. I would encourage all parents and carers to respond as soon as you receive an SMS or email regarding your child’s absence. This is vital for record keeping purposes. Parents are legally required to inform the school of any student absences. We are more than happy to provide support, if you require assistance in your child’s regular attendance.
Warm regards
