College Principal Message

College Principal

HSC exams continue until the 4th November. I have been so impressed with the students’ approach to each examination. Please keep the same courage and confidence to face the challenges of life, as you have with your HSC journey. I am very much looking forward to celebrating with you at your Formal.

It was an honour to attend the Lions District 201N1 Convention on the weekend and take part in the flag ceremony, alongside the Hon. Leslie Williams. As our flag bearers carried the flags to the stage, Jorja Schofield (Westport Campus) and Ellen Nicholson (Westport Campus) did an outstanding job of introducing the countries.

I was thrilled to be able to acknowledge students who were awarded the School Service Award on Tuesday. This award recognises students who make a difference to their campus community through volunteering and active participation in activities to support others. The award recipients were Sophia Bailey, Jenson Medcalf, Charlotte Turner, Elizabeth Cook, Charlie Lewis, Mia Downing, Caitlin Davis, Edward Redfern, Felicity Stelling, Caitlin Davis, Mateya Honnery-Fox and Georgia White.

The community information session at Port Macquarie Campus MPC on Tuesday
25th October was a great opportunity to speak directly with members of the project team, ask questions and provide feedback regarding the progress of the Infrastructure project at both Port Macquarie Campus and Westport Campus. I would like to thank NSW School Infrastructure for facilitating the session and keeping our community informed. Port Macquarie Campus remediation work will take place on each Saturday from October 22 until early December 2022. Asbestos will be removed outside of school hours. You can find more information about the College Upgrade at:

The Girls in Property Program is designed to raise awareness amongst our female students about the diverse range of career paths the property industry offers. Recently, a group of students from the College had the opportunity to be involved in this program. Congratulations to Adabella Jones (Westport Campus) who was recognised this week with an award for her outstanding concept design and presentation as part of this program.

The Clontarf Leadership Camp in Week 3 provided Year 11 and 12 students with a greater understanding of available options for post – graduation transition to employment and / or tertiary education. To qualify for the camp, our students had to have strong attendance rates, have completed all assessment tasks and demonstrated positive behaviour in morning and afternoon activities leading up to the camp. Several academy members expressed an interest in the John Holland Group (JHG) and possible relocation to Newcastle for apprenticeship opportunities or career progressions. Our students had the opportunity to catch up with Clontarf Alumini Kobey Potts, a former Oxley High School student who is now studying medicine at the University of Newcastle. Koby spoke about school, Clontarf and his post school journey. They discussed the application process and pathway options to University, extra curricular activities, as well as the challenges associated with the transition to university.

There is a Halloween PC competition taking place at Port Macquarie Campus on Thursday and Friday of this week (27th and 28th October). PC groups will be asked to design and then make scary door decorations. These will then be hung on their PC door on Halloween, Monday 31 October. Senior Executive staff will walk around each PC classroom and judge best door. Good luck!

Years 7, 8 and 9 students will be participating in Check-in Assessments during weeks 3 – 6 of this term. These are online assessments that are mapped to the NSW Syllabuses and National Literacy and Numeracy Progressions. There are two assessments – reading and numeracy. We encourage our students to complete these assessments as they supplement the data we already have on how our students are performing in literacy and numeracy. Our teaching staff can then tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs.

Year 11 Reports will be distributed to students next Friday 4th November.

Sincerely

Meaghan Cook
