Year 12 Clontarf Academy members who attended the three-day 2024 MNC (Mid North Coast) Leadership Camp on the Gold Coast were outstanding representatives of our college academies. The camp provides an opportunity to celebrate our student's achievements so far and acknowledge their roles as senior students within the Clontarf and school environment. With seniority comes responsibility and the privilege of being role models to their younger peers in both the school and Clontarf environment. It also provides a platform to discover additional leadership opportunities and avenues for personal growth. They also developed a clear, focused approach and identify all available supports for their important final year of high school.

Clontarf Academies from across the region gathered at the Burleigh Heads Scout Group - Camp Kallaroo. Just 900m from the beach, the location was perfect for touch football, engaging team-building games and challenges and a refreshing swim in the ocean.

The Currumbin Vikings SLSC provided the perfect setting for leadership training. The boys engaged in discussions about leadership within their academies, exploring how they can lead and contribute throughout their final school year. Staff members shared insightful stories and examples, offering a clear understanding of effective leadership principles. They also reviewed and planned the school year, emphasising the importance of seizing all opportunities presented to them. The academies also began planning for their end-of-year major trip, the boys were excited about the prospects that lay ahead. All academy members should be commended for their engagement and commitment during these sessions, along with the quality of their 2024 MNC Year 12 Pledge, which all Year 12 Academy members contribute to and sign.

They also took time to celebrate a handful of the young men who will be the first in their families to complete Year 12 and earn their HSC. This incredible achievement will undoubtedly have a significant impact on their younger family members.

There were plenty of fun activities including Stand-Up Paddle Boarding, Fishing and Cultural sessions, with the visit to the Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre being a highlight. The boys experienced an incredible Didgeridoo performance and a self-guided headland tour. Although there weren't many fish caught, it certainly wasn't for lack of trying!

The camp concluded with an early morning super session at Burleigh Heads Beach, with Representatives from Big W and BCF joining them for breakfast followed by fun and engaging games and a swim.

The camp was incredibly rewarding and inspiring for our academy members. It was uplifting to see them feel comfortable and accepted with each other throughout the entire duration of the camp. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Clontarf partners for providing the Clontarf Spirit Awards and Fishing Competition prizes.
