Hastings Secondary College is embarking on its Strategic Improvement Plan 2021-2024. As a College community, we look forward to the four years of continuous improvement and excellence in public secondary education in Port Macquarie.

The Principal Leadership Team has committed to using this opportunity to invite parents, staff, and students for feedback on several key areas of operation for the College.

We value your views and seek input from our community through surveys and working parties focused on building improvement and excellence for every student in our College.

The P&C Associations on both campuses are the voice of parents and carers and promote our College's interests by bringing parents, carers, friends, and teachers into close cooperation with each other. Our P&C Associations are the basis of an important partnership between parents/carers and their campuses. The active involvement of parents is essential for a rewarding College environment.

The College P&C's are conducting an anonymous online survey to help identify the communication between our campuses and our parent/carer community to assess how well we engage with families and how we can improve. We welcome all responses. 

Parents and carers will receive a summary of the survey findings. The findings will also be presented at the campus P&C meetings and provided to senior executives at each campus. Communications Charter

Parents and carers play an important role in the College community. The HVCS Community Charter informs parents and carers on how to engage with NSW public schools. The NSW Department of Education has introduced a School Community Charter (PDF 1.4 MB)for all members of NSW public school communities. It has been developed in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders. The School Community Charter aligns with the department's Strategic Plan 2018 - 2022. 

Parents and carers can expect:

• to be welcomed into our campuses to work in partnership to promote student learning
• communication from teaching staff will be timely, polite, informative and solutions focussed
• professional relationships with College staff will be based on transparency, honesty and mutual respect
• to be treated fairly. Tolerance and understanding are promoted as we respect diversity.

At the Parent Lounge on 5 November facilitated by the P&C Associations, Principals Meaghan Cook and Ian Ross provided an update to registered parents on the Hastings Secondary College Infrastructure Project.

The presentation included:

• a description of  the scope of works across both campuses
• an explaination of the timing and proposed staging of works
• an outline of the plans to mitigate student impact on learning

Since this meeting the Hastings Secondary College Port Macquarie Campus P&C and Westport Campus P&C Associations have written to the Minister of Education regarding the Hastings Secondary College upgrade, see link below. Hastings Secondary College expects all students to be in correct uniform at all times.

Our campuses have a well established uniform policy that supports the needs of the school community. We are asking for feedback on the Westport Campus uniform relating to both sports days and week days.

Hastings Secondary College Westport Campus is proud of its uniform, as we believe it sets the tone for a sound work ethic. The campus works with teachers, students and parents/carers to maintain the standard of student presentation.

Hastings Secondary College Westport Campus is undertaking a review of its uniform to gauge the campus community’s satisfaction with the current uniform.
