Principal's Message

The Hastings Education Fund was established to provide much needed financial assistance and support to local youth to help them achieve their post high school education, training and vocation aspirations. We recognise that the cost of regional students pursuing their post high school goals is often much greater than those of their metropolitan counterparts and that sometimes these costs can be prohibitive.

With this in mind, the Hastings Education Fund fundraises throughout the year and accepts donations from local residents and businesses, in order to provide financial grants to students who need an extra helping hand. The funds come directly from your local community – none of it is government funded – celebrating the aspirations of local youth and working to help them achieve these aspirations. It’s our way of saying “we believe in you and want to support your goals.”

Hastings Education Fund supports students from the following high schools. The number of our students who have been offered scholarships is close to a record for 2023.

Camden Haven High School
St Joseph’s Regional College
Wauchope High School
Hastings Secondary College – Westport Campus and Port Macquarie Campus
MacKillop College
Heritage Christian School
Nautilus Senior College
St Columba Anglican College
Newman Senior Technical College

I would like to congratulate our 15 college students who were successful in their applications for the HEF Scholarships for 2023! The level of support provided by HEF to our College students is absolutely remarkable. I would like to particularly thank Mark O’Brien for his work in this space and to Mark White and Sally Shaw (Our Careers Advisors) for also supporting our students.

Both campuses celebrated their Year 12 formals on Thursday 17 (Westport Campus) and Friday 18 November (Port Macquarie Campus). I would like to acknowledge and thank the Year Advisors for their immense work in supporting your Year 12 child throughout their high school journey and the effort they made in making sure the formal was one to remember. On behalf of the College staff and students, thank you to Mrs Jess Wilkinson and Mrs Clare Leach (Westport Campus) and Mrs Louise Newbound and Mrs Jenn Smith (Port Macquarie Campus).

Port Macquarie Campus Year 9 and 10 students have been fortunate to finally have their ‘Gold Coast’ fix with Year 9 at camp in Week 7 and Year 10 in Week 8. Westport Campus Year 7 and Year 11 students will be on their camps in Week 10. Again, I would like to thank the many staff who leave their own family for the week to look after your children on these wonderful activities.

We are excited to host our incoming Year 7 2023 students to each campus on Tuesday 29 November for Orientation Day. We ask that students arrive at each campus by 8:15am. A full itinerary of the day has been carefully mapped out and we can’t wait to welcome Year 6 students to this amazing College.

A big shout out to Westport Campus’ First Lego League team who have qualified for the Australian Competition being held in Sydney on Saturday 3 December. We wish you well, legends!

The last day of school is on Friday 16 December. I would like to wish our College community a very happy and safe holiday break. I have no doubt you will be very surprised in the progress of the capital works happening at each campus over the  holidays.

Years 7, 11 and 12 students will return to their base campus on Tuesday 31 January 2023. Those students in years 8, 9 and 10 will return on site on Wednesday 1 February 2023.

For parents wishing to purchase new uniform items, Port Macquarie Campus MPC on Owen street will be open on the 23, 24 and 25 January. Please note that both Westport and Port Macquarie campus uniforms will be sold from this one site. The reason for this is that we have aligned many of the uniform items and costs. In 2023, students will only be able to wear college uniform with our logo on them. Trackpants, shorts and navy jumpers will no longer be able to be purchased outside of the College.
